Christopher Nolan: Director/Screenwriter/Producer

This year, Chris Nolan, joins Paramount Pictures and Warner Bros. as director, screenwriter and producer to helm Interstellar, a project that for years sat at the offices of Mr. Steven Spielberg, who during 2007, brought Chris Nolan’s younger brother, screenwriter Jonathon Nolan to pen the script, which is based on the explorations of physicist Kip Thorne’s theories of gravity fields, wormholes and several hypotheses that Albert Einstein was never able to prove. Chris Nolan, besides just directing, decided to pen a script that merges an original idea of his own with the previous script, which was written by Jonathan Nolan.

Under their production company, Syncopy Films, that writer/director/producer Christopher Nolan founded with his wife/co-producer, Emma Thomas, will produce Interstellar with Paramount, Warner Bros. and Lynda Obst Productions. Both, Chris and Emma have produced all of their films under their production company beginning with The Prestige (2006).

Lynda Obst: Producer / Lynda Obst Productions

Lynda Obst is one of the most prolific female producers in the film industry. Her hit films including Flashdance, The Fisher King, Sleepless In Seattle, One Fine Day, Contact, Hope Floats, and How to Lose A Guy In Ten Days, have received critical acclaim, and combined have amassed two Oscar wins, an additional eleven Oscar nominations, four Golden Globe wins and an additional eleven Golden Globe nominations.

Obst is also a well-known commentator and best-selling author, frequently writing and speaking about both the industry and issues surrounding women in entertainment. Her non-fiction book: Hello He Lied: And Other Truths from the Hollywood Trenches debuted at #1 on the LA Times Best Seller list, where it stayed for 10 weeks and turned into an industry classic, later to be adapted into a documentary for AMC.

Kip Thorne: Executive Producer/Technical Consultant

Kip Stephen Thorne (born June 1, 1940) is an American theoretical physicist, known for his prolific contributions in gravitation physics and astrophysics and for having trained a generation of scientists. A longtime friend and colleague of Stephen Hawking and Carl Sagan, he was the Feynman Professor of Theoretical Physics at the California Institute of Technology and one of the world's leading experts on the astrophysical implications of Einstein's general theory of relativity. He continues to do scientific research and is also writing a film.

On June 2006, Steven Spielberg announced he would direct a scientifically accurate film about "a group of explorers who travel through a worm hole and into another dimension" from a treatment by Kip Thorne and producer Lynda Obst.

Jordan Goldberg: Executive Producer

Jordan Goldberg is someone who has seen close and personal how a filmmaker like Chris Nolan on the set works, films and behaves with the crew and cast. Mr. Goldberg has worked with Chris Nolan before on films such as The Prestige; The Dark Knight; Inception and The Dark Knight Rises. Adding him besides other talents to take on this ambitious project, Mr. Goldberg's efforts and his assistance will turn the arduous process of filmmaking much easier.

Jonathan Nolan

Jonathan Nolan: Screenwriter

Nolan's short story "Memento Mori" was used by his elder brother, director Christopher Nolan, as the basis for the critically acclaimed film Memento. Even though Jonathan did not share any screenwriting credit for the film and the film is not an original screenplay, they shared a nomination for the Academy Award for Best Writing (Original Screenplay) since the movie was released before the story was published. In 2005, Jonathan and Christopher co-wrote the screenplay for The Prestige, which is based on Christopher Priest's novel of the same title. The brothers collaborated yet again on the screenplay for the 2008 blockbuster The Dark Knight. The film went on to become the most financially successful Batman movie of all time.

Nolan describes his successful working relationship with his brother (Christopher) in the production notes of The Prestige: "I've always suspected that it has something to do with the fact that he's left-handed and I'm right-handed, because he's somehow able to look at my ideas and flip them around in a way that's just a little bit more twisted and interesting. It's great to be able to work with him like that." In addition, they also contrast in the way they speak; both brothers have mixed American and British accents, Jonathan has a more American accent while Christopher has a more British accent.

In January 2007, screenwriter Jonathan Nolan met with the studio to discuss adapting Obst and Thorne's treatment into a narrative screenplay. The screenwriter suggested the addition of a "time element" to the treatment's basic idea, which was welcomed by Obst and Thorne. In March, Paramount hired Nolan as well as scientists from Caltech, forming a workshop who will begin adapting the treatment after completing the script for Warner Bros.' The Chicago Fire. The following July, Kip Thorne said there was a push by people for him to portray himself in the film Interstellar. On January 9, 2013, it was announced that Christopher Nolan would take over direction of the project.

I think that everyone is excited to hear who the cinematographer will be. Not only must this person be outstanding at lighting, camera movement/placement and color manipulation in post-production, but also have excellent creative input.

Most of all it has to be someone Nolan can trust to work with on future projects.

Hopefully they release the name of the new DP for Nolan this Monday or during the week sometime.
