As we already know, Hans Zimmer is composing the score to Interstellar. And as the die-hard fans of the master composer, whose work we worship, not only when he is composing just for Christopher Nolan, but other film-makers as well, we are very eager to learn where Mr. Zimmer is right now with the music. Back in January of this year, he began writing the music for Interstellar, on which we did a report here. My favorite score of Mr. Zimmer this year is for the film Rush, directed by Ron Howard. If you have not yet listened to the score, go for it now. It's Zimmer written all over it. That should be enough as an excuse to hit the play button.
Anyway, back to Interstellar. Everything's been very quiet lately. Just in case, if you are not yet aware, Chris Nolan and his team are now filming in Los Angeles; I believe for two and a half months or close to three months. Yes, stage-based shooting only. In a way, it is a good thing as we want Nolan to surprise us all like he always does in a spectacular manner without knowing too much about the film.
But, in a way, we do want to know a bit. That is why we are here to promote the film and bring all fans under one roof to learn and get all pumped up and stoked about Interstellar. Since we want to know a bit more and since Mr. Zimmer has something to share, here we have, some excerpts below for you from the interview that he recently had with the fortunate folks of a site called, Collider.com.
"At the back of my mind constantly I'm inventing stuff for Interstellar. Weirdly I'm a bit ahead on that one. Circumstances beyond my control, I wrote [Nolan] a main theme in January while he was writing... There's a tune, there's a theme there."
There's a tune, there's a theme, says, Mr. Zimmer. - Yes, he is definitely in the mood to create a new world, from its inception. Got it?
And he went on to say:
"Chris feels the same challenge, 'Let's do something new. We have something to say.' He really has got something to say, there's a solid backbone to this thing and it's an important story, and we want to tell it in a way that nobody else has ever done. And the same goes for the music, of course."
Zimmer also talks about the influence of The Dark Knight Trilogy score on blockbuster film-making. The in-depth interview can be read if you jump here.
